Pittsburgh Eats: Pamela’s Diner

Pamela's Diner and Famous Hotcakes

You ever stumble across a place on vacation and think where have you been all my life? That’s how I feel about Pamela’s in Pittsburgh, PA.

About 10 years ago I was on a family vacation in Pittsburgh and was delighted to try Pamela’s back then. If you go on a weekend forget about it. You will have a long wait. Try a weekday around mid day.

Pamela’s is a breakfast diner so they are only opened from 8am – 2pm anyways and only have 4 locations. They are most famously known for their Strawberry Hotcakes. Which are delicious but this time around I tried something different.

I tried the Blueberry Hotcakes (with a side of lyonnaise potatoes) and oh man those are even better. What makes these hotcakes so good is everything actually.

The hotcakes themselves are thin and crepe like but very buttery and crunchy. They are filled with the blueberries (or whatever you flavor you ordered), sour cream, and brown sugar, topped with whipped cream. Once you have this combination you won’t want to ever go back.

The blueberry hotcakes are filled with blueberries whereas the last few times I have gotten the strawberry ones the filling was lacking. My side of lyonnaise potatoes was just as good. They are potatoes seasoned with butter (lots of butter) and garlic. Simple yet highly effective.

There is sooooo much food to try on the menu. They even have lunch options. I have only tried the hotcakes because I don’t want to mess around when I’m there, since I’m not from the area. If you are from or live near Pittsburgh comment below to tell me what next to try at Pamela’s that is a hit. But not only is the food a hit the atmosphere inside the diner is too.

Did You Know?

Did you know President Obama went to Pamela’s back in 2008 for his campaign?

Verdict: Yay
