Ocean City, NJ Pizza Duel

Manco & Manco Vs. Ocean's South End Pizza

The Jersey Shore is widely known for many popular vacation spots such as Atlantic City, Seaside Heights (where the famous Jersey Shore show was filmed), Cape May, and Ocean City. There are so many places to visit and more importantly eat. New Jersey is like a suburb of NYC and so the pizza on the shore is definitely something to check out. All along the boardwalk in Ocean City, NJ are pizza places with large slices and pies. The two that we decided to try were Manco & Manco Pizza and Ocean’s South End Pizza.

Manco & Manco

This was definitely the flashy place to eat, figuratively and literally. The main restaurant sticks out from all the other pizza places because of the flashing lights and the long line that trickles on to the boardwalk everyday to wait to eat there. There are about 3 other spots on the boardwalk to get Manco Manco pizza and you see everyone carrying their pizza boxes along the boardwalk and beach. If you don’t want to wait in line but want a fresh piece of pie or slice you can order to go or eat there at lunch and you’ll most likely avoid the long lines that form around dinner. As for the pizza it was huge. We got a full pizza pie and the slices were bigger than our faces. It was a thin crust and the pizza was half cheese half BBQ chicken with white sauce. So overhyped… especially once you get the bill. Very basic, very average thin pizza and the crust was quite over done and dark. There was nothing special about either flavor which was disappointing. That is why when we were craving pizza again we decided to try another place even though it looked very similar, Ocean’s South End Pizza.

Ocean's South End Pizza

What caught our attention initially was that it said it was home to the famous Sweet Buffalo pizza. All the pizza places are pretty much all in the same stretch along the boardwalk so you could easily stumble across another one, not only that but they all have large slices. But we decided to try the sweet buffalo, plain cheese, and white with ricotta pizza slices. We were blown away. Especially after having tried Manco & Manco the day before. The pizza was large and thin like before but the flavors were much better. The cheese slice had flavor and seasoning. The white with ricotta was delicious as well and had just enough oil that wasn’t overpowering with globs of ricotta placed spread over. As for the sweet buffalo now that’s where it’s at. Wow. Honestly one of the best flavors of pizza ever. There were breaded chicken bits on the pizza with mild and a sweet sauce mixed together. It wasn’t too spicy and not too sweet. The perfect combination of the flavors. A little tang and bite in every mouthful. So yummy. This is the slice of pizza you want to try before leaving the boardwalk even though it’s $8 a slice.

Is all pizza the same? I surely don’t think so. The flavors, the thickness, the cheese, sauce, the bake, all is different. Which do you prefer thick or thin zaaaaa?

Verdict: Ocean’s South End Pizza

  1. It depends what mood I’m in! I like both thin and thick! But I guess I’d rather have thin since it isn’t so heavy and I can eat multiple slices! Great Read!
