IN-N-OUT: California, Fast Food

The Famous In-N-Out

I recently was able to try one of America’s most popular fast food restaurants. And it’s not in every state like you can find a McDonald’s. You have to travel west if you’d like to try the famous IN-N-OUT.

IN-N-OUT is known quite well throughout America and they are known not only for their great quality of beef but specifically their burgers and fries. I was in California a few months ago and had the pleasure of being surrounded by IN-N-OUT restaurants. I knew I was not going to be able to pass on trying the fast food goodness.

First of all, expect a line. A line inside and a line at the drive through. I was shocked at how many people were not only there but also dining in. It’s a very cute restaurant, it’s made up like you’d expect a diner in the fifties to be. As I was ordering my first meal ever from IN-N-OUT I asked the workers what I needed to try since it was my first time there. I was told to get the double double and order that animal style along with the fries ordered animal style as well. Animal style is just a way to order the food and what it’s topped with. I also washed that all down with a delicious chocolate shake.

The burgers I got were grilled with mustard then topped with pickles, lettuce, grilled onions, and extra spread on a toasted bun. The fries were topped with melted cheese, grilled onions, and spread. Spread is IN-N-OUT’s homemade sauce which is very similar to a thousand island dressing. You can get extras too, you just have to ask.

The First Bites

Biting into the burger I could just tell it was quality beef. The patties were thin and evenly cooked and very delicious. The fries on the other hand… definitely a hard pass. They were shoestring cut and had no flavor at all. Ordering them animal style did nothing for me. I was unable to finish those. As soon as I got back to my hotel room which was one minute from the restaurant the fries were already cold. Very disappointing.

IN-N-OUT has always had some hype around it for me since it’s something that I personally can’t just go to whenever I want. I had to travel some distance for it. The burger was definitely delicious but it didn’t blow my mind like I expected it to. But maybe that’s just because of how much pressure I put on it to be phenomenal. But it is a fast food restaurant where you are served quality food for a decent price. But the fries… Fries=Trash. That’s all I have to say about that. Skip the fries unless there’s a better way to order them.

Something that I found very cute and interesting was that they print Bible verses on the packaging. I like that. Next time you go check your containers or food packaging, see for yourself, it was something I missed at first.

Verdict: Yay
