A Cotswolds Afternoon Tea: The Old Bakery Tearoom

English Tea is the Best Tea!

England you have absolutely STOLEN my heart. Over the course of this trip to the UK I have tried many different types of foods, drinks and desserts. I will be sharing some of my most favorite things that I tried and I think are worthwhile to have in England.

I think it is only fair to start off with the one and only classic English Tea. While in England my sister and I had afternoon tea twice. The first time we had tea was in the Cotswolds which is about 2 hours NW of London, at The Old Bakery Tearoom. I can not even begin to comment on how amazing this afternoon tea was in the Cotswolds. This family owned tearoom was tucked away off the streets in Stow-on-the-Wold. This town in the Cotswolds has many shops, restaurants, Inns, and more to just mosey around and explore. I would be sure to make a reservation if interested just to secure your place at the table because it does get busy! Make sure to do your research because I know it is not open every day of the week, so plan ahead!

My sister and I each got our own helping of Cream Tea which included 2 homemade scones, a heaping pile of clotted cream, homemade Strawberry or Forest Fruit Jam, and a pot of the Fairtrade Loose Leaf Tea cream and sugar on the side of course. All this for just £8.95. Not a bad deal. I also ordered a crumpet on the side just because England lol. The best way to eat that is to douse it in butter and jam. Crumpets look a little different but are pretty much just English Muffins they just look different. Just speaking to the food, it was absolutely incredible. Probably one of my favorite things I have had ever. The scones with the homemade jam and clotted cream changed my life. There is no shortage of clotted cream in England so take full advantage of that while you can.

Are you a jam first then clotted cream person or clotted cream then jam? That is a huge debate over there. I prefer clotted cream and then jam just because it goes on easier that way but truly it tastes the same. There’s no wrong way as long as it’s going in my belly!

The scones were baked to perfection and the best scones I had in my time in the UK. They were huge, steamy, soft and delicious. They reminded me of American biscuits, just better. It’s funny how we have different names for the same foods.

This family owned business was exceptional and the service was spot on. Alan was so accommodating and a pleasure to be around. This place overall gets a 10/10, absolutely phenomenal, I can not say enough good things about The Old Bakery Tearoom.

Verdict: Yay

Don’t forget to check out my next post about my other afternoon tea experience I had at Hotel Cafe Royal in London. Watch out for those boujee details 😉
