H-E-B True Texas BBQ

H-E-B... is everything better here?

Grocery stores are by far more of an experience these days. It;s so fun to go to new places and see the local grocery stores and compare them to what you’re used to. Not only that but compare the food options and prices as well. In the rolling hills in Kerrville, Texas a grocery store was started that Texans love to shop and eat at, H-E-B.

H-E-B is huge. There is a lot of variety there and you don’t have to worry about the store not having what you want. Now I was under the impression that H-E-B stood for “Here Everything’s Better” but that is not the case. It is indeed an abbreviation of the store’s founder’s son, Howard E. Butt. People love to come to shop here not only because of its origin but also because it caters to the Texan palette a lot better than most others. There were two things that I found to be super interesting. The first being the selection of Mexican food. There are hot and ready tortillas made throughout the day along with refrigerator sweet corn tamales, enchiladas, and so much more. They do not disappoint.

The other thing I found fascinating was the True Texas BBQ that some stores have attached to the grocery store. I had to try some H-E-B BBQ. I tried the loaded cornbread with pulled pork and the banana pudding. I was sadly disappointed… The cornbread didn’t have any flavor and was so dry it was hard to swallow. The pulled pork was alright, very average and the beans were flavorless. I was surprised at the lack of flavor of the dish. Then dessert came and I LOVE banana pudding, it has become a real favorite of mine. So trying H-E-B’s had me at the edge of my seat. But as soon as I smelled it I knew it was going to be terrible. There was a real fake or artificial banana flavor all throughout the pudding. But I will say it was very fluffy. I liked the consistency of it but that was it. A true disappointment from a place that calls itself “True Texas BBQ”. I don’t like to be a hater but go elsewhere for your true texas bbq. H-E-B is a great grocery store. Let’s just leave it at that.

Verdict: Nay
